Endoscopy for Surgery

Surgery is dealing with the diagnosis and therapy of diseases and injuries as a result of a direct impact on the body. The term surgery originally comes from the ancient greek words for hand and work. The litteral translation of surgeon therefore is "hand worker".
The main objective of surgery is restoring wholly or in part the natural functions of the human body. If this is not possible, surgery tries to restore the previous functions as far as possible using implants.
Surgery comprises many individual disciplines. In addition to general surgery, the field of surgery comprises further specialist areas such as:

  • Emergency/trauma surgery
  • orthopedics
  • pediatric surgery
  • plastic and esthetic surgery
  • vascular surgery
  • thoracic surgery
  • visceral surgery
  • heart surgery
  • neurosurgery

Method / Applications: Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery is today a fixed part of the therapeutic spectrum of surgeons. The therapeutic sucess depends, beside the great operative skills, on the right instruments that are used. As an experienced, worldwide active producer of endoscopes we have a unique know-how, which continuously flows in new product ideas. Our PANOVIEW-Endoscopes with highest optical quality, our ergonomic MODUline forceps and scissors as well as our needleholders with axial handles, unique suction and irrigation systems and our RIWO-ART trocars show just a small part of our various instruments for laparoscopic surgery.

Method / Applications : Keyport - The Cost-Effective Route To Modern Surgery From Richard Wolf

The Single Port originated from the discussion about new, minimally invasive operating techniques, e.g. by using natural openings in the body providing access for surgery (Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery – NOTES) and the associated “scarless operation”. The Single Port technique involves introducing all the instruments necessary for the specific surgical intervention into the abdomen through a single port at the navel (Umbilicus). The scar produced from the port can be discretely concealed in the navel and it is no longer visible after a few weeks. The scarless result and the prospect of less pain, faster recovery and quicker return to the everyday routine make the Single Port technique increasingly attractive for many surgeons, hospitals and patients.

Method / Applications : Tem Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery

For more than twenty years, TEM (Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery) has accompanied us in the world of colorectal surgery - from the first trials carried out by Professes Buess in the early 1980s until today. The TEM trend is not letting up, on the contrary, at present TEM is experiencing a real boom, and this subject is being discussed at almost all national and international congresses. New markets are being opened up for TEM (such as China – two large workshops in 2006 with Richard Wolf and Professor Buess), and the
others are being expanded continuously (such as Spain – again workshops with Richard Wolf in 2006 and in the years to come; annual courses during the congress of the American Society for Colon and Rectal Surgery, USA).
Therefore the TEM system is certainly the most successful niche product of Richard Wolf GmbH – with just under seven hundred systems sold world-wide. It is not only the instruments, but also the operating method as such that has developed into an established process in rectal surgery for certain tumour stages. The "patient benefit" is extremely high with TEM – There is hardly any other operating technique that offers more advantages for the patients than TEM.

Method / Applications : Endocrine Surgery

Aside from open surgical procedures, thyroid gland disorders are treated with minimally invasive, video assisted thyroid surgery.

Interventions on the thyroid are among the most frequent surgical interventions. Favourable cosmetic results can be obtained through the use of a new endoscopic procedure.

Instrument set for minimally invasive video-assisted thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy (MIVAT / MIVAP)

The innovative and user-friendly instrument set for minimally invasive, video-assisted thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy was developed by Richard Wolf in the highest quality and is being used internationally in thyroid surgery, with excellent surgery results.

Interventions on the thyroid leave a noticeable scar in the frontal throat region. A new endoscopic procedure allows the avoidance of large cuts, resulting in better cosmetic results. Using a video endoscopic view, a short cut is made precisely on the skin line, and the thyroid lobe is freed and removed through it. Onscreen, the structures appear in an image which is strongly magnified by the endoscope; this, of course, is an enormous advantage for protection of the vocal chord nerves.

Method / Applications : Vascular Surgery Endoscopic Sub fascial Dissection Of Perforating Veins - Esdp

10 – 15 % of adults suffer from extensive varicosis of the legs. In 16 % of these cases, one of the causes is insufficiency of the perforating veins.

More than 90% of these insufficient perforating veins are located in the lower leg. Only precise dissection of these veins can reliably prevent recurrences. The subfascial elimination fo the insufficient perforating veins in the treatment of primary varicosis and postthrombotic or trophic skin disturbances as a result of varicosis is accepted as the most effective therapeutic principle.

In keeping with the principle of minimally invasive surgery, we use an endoscopic technique, that allows all the perforating veins in the lower leg to be coagulated and dissected under direct vision with little trauma.

The instrument set for endoscopic subfascial dissection of the perforating veins includes cold-light operating tubes in various lengths and diameters, through which an operating telescope (PANOVIEW operating telescope) is inserted. The telescope has a working channel for auxiliary instruments such as the endoscopic bipolar coagulation forceps and the endoscopic scissors.

Method / Applications : Endoscopic Surgery

In endoscopic surgery, and especially in laparoscopic surgery, the inner organs of the abdominal cavity and thorax are diagnosed and treated. The examinations are carried out via an endoscopic system that is placed via one or several trocars. A xenon light source illuminates the operating area via the endoscope. For surgical intervention today, high-definition video cameras are used. This provides more reliable information than non-invasive preexamination, such as ultrasound or X-ray control.
The corresponding working instruments are inserted into the abdomen under view through trocars which in most cases measure 5 mm.
Especially for surgical indications the endoscopic procedure guarantees maximum reliability in image interpretation, thus minimizing the risk of complications.
The use of endoscopy in surgery allows a correct diagnosis and therapy in the least aggressive way.

THE EFFECTIVE, ALL-PURPOSE SUCTION IRRIGATION PUMP FOR LAPAROSCOPY FLUID CONTROL LAP 2216

An effective and dependable suction and aspiration system is extremely important for any laparoscopic intervention. Apart from effective irrigation and suction power, you as a surgeon are also reliant on simple and effortless operation. We combine optimum performance parameters in our new generation of FLUID CONTROL LAP 2216 Suction Irrigation Pumps with very easy handling.

The latest technology using an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) transponder provides enhanced safety during application. The coded tubes mean that the type of tubing, the validity and dependability of the tubing sets used is automatically identified by the unit.

The validity of each tubing set is checked automatically when it is connected at the start of a procedure. This ensures that single use tubing sets are indeed used only once and the reusable set is prevented from reuse once its maximum life is reached.
